Greatsword and Dagger PvP Guide
Welcome to the ultimate guide for the Greatsword and Dagger PvP build!
If you’re familiar with Archeage, think of this as the Darkrunner equivalent in Throne and Liberty.
At first glance, the Greatsword and Dagger combination may appear to be just another fighter type, but don’t be fooled. Thanks to powerful passive abilities like Vital Force and Cold Warrior, this build can dish out significant damage while maintaining a hefty health pool.
With an impressive engagement range of over 24 meters, along with access to two binds, two stuns, and one prone ability, you can effectively control the battlefield and eliminate your foes, solidifying your role as a lethal melee assassin. Plus, Precision Dash is not classified as a Fury attack, meaning you won’t have to worry about those pesky "perfect block" notifications!
End Game Greatsword/Dagger PvP Build
Note that some skills may appear differently in tooltips due to their specialization.
- Frost Cleaving is equivalent to Gaia Crash
- Cruel Smite corresponds to Valiant Brawl
This skill list is a general recommendation for upgrades across all gameplay modes.
If a skill doesn’t fit your intended build, feel free to skip it.
To enhance your skills:
- Use quality skill growth books to upgrade from green to blue, following the order provided. Once all essential skills are green, allocate any remaining books to other relevant skills.
- Utilize rare skill growth books to upgrade from blue to purple in the specified order. After upgrading all key skills to blue, apply the rest to other pertinent skills.
Focus on getting these essential skills to blue before advancing them to purple, as they are universally beneficial.
As you progress, continue to upgrade the rest of your skills based on your gameplay experience.
The Greatsword/Dagger build offers various strategies for securing kills. Your approach remains fairly consistent whether you’re in large-scale or small-scale PvP.
In larger battles, positioning is crucial. Getting isolated or caught off-guard before your guild engages can have serious consequences. Use the chaos to your advantage by executing an AOE stun with Devastating Smash, potentially turning the tide of battle in your favor.
In smaller skirmishes, it's easier to notice the animation for AOE stuns, making single-target combos much more effective.
Key combos to consider:
- DaVinci's Courage
- Devastating Smash
- Frost Cleaving* If this option is not selected, feel free to skip ahead.
-
As players progress to higher gear levels, their defenses increase, resulting in diminished damage output until tier 2 weapons are acquired.
-
Aim to extend your engagement range to over 24 meters!
-
Start by activating precision dash to leap towards the enemy's frontline.
-
Next, utilize devastating smash to penetrate into the backline. You can follow up with precision dash or shadow strike, ascending slash, guillotine blade, or brutal incision.
-
This ability is categorized as an execution skill, inflicting greater damage when the target's health drops below a specific threshold.
-
If the enemy’s health is not within the 40-50% range, initiate with the stun combo first.
-
Should your damage abilities be on cooldown, resort to cruel smite and death blow, or stunning blow and cruel smite.
-
In smaller scale or arena PvP situations, this skill is referred to as valiant brawl death blow.
-
When facing tougher opponents, mix and match these combos seamlessly.
-
Guillotine blade serves as an excellent alternative when the target is stunned.
-
Always be aware of your environment, as this skill requires a wind-up time.
-
Although this skill deals more damage than death blow, the wind-up time introduces a greater risk of interruptions.
-
The dagger's weapon mastery, known as master of evasion, provides an extra 105 evasion while wielding a dagger.
-
To make the most of this advantage, designate your dagger as the primary weapon during neutral phases of combat.
-
Using daggers as your primary weapon also enhances your movement speed during moments when you're not utilizing greatsword attacks.
-
Integrate skills from both weapon sets to avoid being immobilized by cooldowns.
-
Employ davinci's courage and camouflage cloak judiciously; you must decide the best moment for offensive or defensive use.
-
Camouflage cloak can be utilized offensively as well, but be cautious of putting yourself in a risky situation when it is unavailable.
When engaging in PvP with a greatsword/dagger build, adhere to the following stat priorities:
-
Main Stat : Strength
-
Secondary Stats : Perception and Dexterity
Character Build Optimization
At level 50, players have a total of 49 stat points available for distribution, allowing for flexibility in character development. Additionally, gear provides fixed stat bonuses that cannot be altered. Players can reset these 49 points freely, enabling them to adapt their builds as they progress and change equipment.
Key stats should be prioritized for optimal performance. Investing points strategically can yield bonuses for every 10 points allocated between levels 30 and 60.
The Greatsword and Dagger build benefits significantly from stacking health points (HP). Skills and passive abilities associated with the Greatsword enhance the likelihood of executing heavy attacks, making strength a crucial attribute to maximize.
Utilizing the same gear as your leveling setup is advisable. For those interested in leveling strategies, refer to the Greatsword/Dagger leveling guide. Begin by aiming for 30 strength to boost your HP. Afterward, focus on achieving 30 dexterity to enhance weapon damage and attack speed. Any remaining points can be allocated to perception for increased hit rate; however, early on, players may find melee evasion limited.
Your primary objective should be to reach 30 strength first, as increased HP works well with skills like Vital Force. Once that is accomplished, progress to 30 dexterity for improved critical hits and attack speed. Following this, invest points into perception until reaching 40, which enhances hit and buff duration, benefiting skills such as DaVinci's Courage and Precision Dash.
With purple gear, you can achieve essential stat benchmarks: 60 strength for HP and heavy attack chances, and 50 perception for improved hit rate and buff duration. Additionally, this grants an increase in the range of engagement skills.
If you have the chance to acquire Tevent's Despair Blade or Tevent's Massacre Blade, prioritize obtaining these weapons, as they are among the top choices for the Greatsword/Dagger build in PvP.
Future updates will see a complete overhaul of these builds with the introduction of T2 epic gear. Notably, with the arrival of runes on November 26th, various build options have expanded, including a 4-piece death set for enhanced damage.
Currently, no additional changes to the gear are anticipated until T2 gear is released in January or potentially earlier. If you already possess most of the archived gear, it is advisable to continue using it until the new gear arrives.
Rune Synergies and Guardians
- Rune synergies can be effectively utilized with any gear. **
Guardians serve as unique transformations that provide your character with either offensive or defensive enhancements for a duration of 30 seconds. In PvE scenarios, you will have a variety of guardian options at your disposal.
-
Lady Knight Kamarsha - This guardian is particularly beneficial for its ability to reduce cooldowns while granting a damage shield that equates to 50% of your total mana. It's an excellent choice for defensive play when you find yourself in perilous situations.
-
Pale Nemesis Hartach - This guardian grants you the ability to enter stealth mode after eliminating an enemy within a five-second window. It’s particularly advantageous as a preemptive measure before activating your Tevent's Massacre Blade, helping you to mitigate aggro effectively.
-
Utilizing the greatsword and dagger combination allows you to adopt a playstyle akin to that of a bruiser or a melee assassin within the realm of Throne and Liberty!
-
The skills associated with the greatsword enable you to accumulate substantial amounts of heavy attack chance, hit rate, and boosts to skill damage.
-
On the other hand, the dagger's passive abilities enhance your critical hit rate and critical damage significantly.
-
Notably, Precision Dash is not categorized as a fury attack, allowing you to immobilize opponents without the concern of triggering a "perfect block"!
